As part of the game UI design I lead for This Means Warp, I had to look at how to implement a reward system. Due to the game being a roguelite and based heavily on replay-ability I felt it was important to have a satisfying reward system that carries through to the game over screen. I decided on a system using collectible cards that the player could unlock and view whenever they wanted. Using the in-game corporation that players work for I found it a good way to tie the system directly into the games lore using the Globocorp branding and keeps withing the games quirky writing.
Whether a player succeeds for fails a run I wanted the whole experience to feel satisfying so it entices them to come back for more to complete that near-finished achievement or unlock that cool character they wanted.
