As an avid enjoyer of Gotham Knights, I decided to start a personal project of redesigning and reworking a few core aspects of the in-game menu and character select UIX while interjecting some modern design trends like glassmorphism and dynamic parallax menus (based on cursor movement).
One of the first things I wanted to look at was tying the in-game UI style in with the overall identity used outside of the game, utilizing more of the purples and glows often seen in the eye catching key visuals. I found the current layout of the character screens to be a bit jarring and very text-heavy so I wanted to convert to a modern, simpler layout and work in some more imagery and iconography to help navigating the menus easier, such as previews for armour, icons for stats and condensed visual indicators for XP and levelling.
For character select I wanted to stick to the dynamic, neon feel of things but also include a video to give players a better understanding of their selected character with their combat style, skills and movement abilities.
